Harris calls Trump to congratulate him on election win

Vice President Harris called President-elect Trump the night before to congratulate him on his victory, a senior aide to Vice President Harris confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday.

The aide said Harris discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and becoming a president for the American people.

The vice president is scheduled to speak late Wednesday afternoon at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where supporters gathered Tuesday night to watch the results announced. Mr. Harris is a graduate of Mr. Howard.

Trump won the presidency convincingly, winning states such as North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada. Arizona is still too close to call.

The phone call between Harris and Trump came after Trump himself refused to concede his defeat in the 2020 election to President Biden. President Trump pushed false claims of widespread voter fraud in the weeks after the election, and on January 6, 2021, his supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the results.
