Harris campaign adviser: Trump would be 'off the rails' in second term

A senior adviser to Vice President Harris' presidential campaign said Sunday that former President Trump's second term will be “off track.”

“This guy is going to be an untethered guy in his second term. There are no constraints. He's going to go off the rails. There's no one to hold him back,” Harris Waltz official Ian Sams said. He said this in an interview on MSNBC's “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart.”

Sams' comments come as Harris and the Trump campaign seek to compound the fallout from their rival's election.

The presidential election between Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris is likely to be a difficult one, but the winner is likely to be decided in seven battleground states. Polls do not appear to show either candidate leading by more than 1 or 2 points in any state.

Sams brought up two issues in her remarks, as the Harris campaign leans toward abortion and the conservative Project 2025 agenda as reasons why Democrats should fear a Trump re-election.

“He will be able to enact the dangerous Project 2025 agenda that we have been talking about for months. “If you do that, you're going to make people pay an extra $4,000 a year in taxes. They're in the middle class because of his plan,” Sams said. Ta.

Project 2025 is an agenda prepared for a conservative presidency. President Trump has sought to distance himself from the proposal, writing in multiple social media posts that he does not know the people behind the effort and insisting that the group does not speak for him. are. a CNN coverage At least 140 people who worked for the Trump administration were found to be involved in some way with Project 2025.

President Trump has sought to soften his stance on abortion in recent weeks, touting the idea of vetoing a national abortion ban. The Harris campaign is warning voters not to trust President Trump on this issue after he appointed three Supreme Court justices, all of whom voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. .

Trump scrapped Harris' economic and border plans, arguing that her and President Biden's policies weakened the economy and led to an increase in illegal immigration during Biden's term.

In recent months, policy changes at the border have reduced the number of apprehensions of migrants at the border.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for a response to Sams' comments.
