Harris Campaign ‘Denied Requests for Comment’ on Why She Denies Requests
Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign reportedly “refused a request for comment” on when Harris would stop refusing media requests for comment.
“Harris’ campaign declined a request for comment on when she plans to stop shying away from the media,” The Daily Beast reported. Reported On Thursday.
The outlet noted that reporters were “not being given the opportunity to ask unscripted questions” to the vice president and that Ms Harris has “avoided the press” since her “toxic interview” with NBC. Nightly News In June 2021, she gave a bizarre response to a question about her inability to visit the southern US border.
“Are you planning on visiting the border?” asked NBC’s Lester Holt, to which a visibly perplexed Harris replied, “You know, I plan on going to the border at some point. I’ve been to the border. So this, this, this whole issue about the border, we’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”
I want to let the Vice President know that this is not a laughing matter. This is a serious situation that is affecting people’s lives. President Biden should replace her immediately and appoint someone in charge of the border crisis who knows what to do and will take this seriously. Needless to say… a few more awful interviews like this one may have her stepping down for the President.
Holt then pointedly told Harris, “You’ve never been to the border,” to which the vice president oddly responded, “I’ve never even been to Europe.”
Since then, Harris’ media appearances appear to have been largely pre-recorded, and her opponent’s campaign has taken notice.
During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Thursday, former President Donald Trump said Harris “hasn’t done any press conferences. Do you know why? Because she can’t do press conferences.”
“She doesn’t know how to do a press conference,” Trump said. “She’s not smart enough to do a press conference. I’m sorry, but we need smart people to lead this country.”
On Wednesday, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate, approached reporters standing outside Harris’ Air Force Two plane as it sat on a tarmac in Wisconsin and said he thought he’d stop by because “the media might get lonely standing there by themselves with no one to talk to.”
“I thought you might be feeling lonely because the vice president is not answering reporters’ questions, and hasn’t done so in 17 days,” Vance told reporters.

According to the Daily Beast, reporters assumed that Harris’ campaign was likely “busy” with President Joe Biden dropping out of the race and “grew forgiving of her ignoring interview requests.”
But some might argue that the “hectic” events Harris is said to be experiencing during her campaign are in no way as chaotic as President Trump’s campaign, which saw him face an unprecedented amount of legal battles, be threatened with firing from the Secret Service, and survive an assassination attempt.
Still, the Daily Beast acknowledged that political reporters are “starting to agree” that the Trump campaign has a point about Harris avoiding the media.
“Every day from now that she doesn’t talk to the media is political malfeasance and it’s not good for democracy,” said Ron Fournier, a veteran former White House correspondent for The Associated Press.
The New York Times Meanwhile, columnist Lydia Polgreen writes: said On Wednesday, it was revealed that Harris had “not given any major interviews and had not regularly answered formal questions from reporters.” [campaign] “Trail” is “disappointing.”
While it may be unprecedented for candidates from both major U.S. parties to eschew unscripted interviews and press conferences, this year’s election has seen some unprecedented events so far.
