Vice President Harris' campaign called for a new presidential debate with former President Trump shortly after Tuesday's debate in Philadelphia.
“Under the bright lights, the American people were able to see the choice they face at the ballot box this fall: move forward with Kamala Harris or move backward with Trump. That's what they saw tonight, and that's what they will see in the second debate in October,” Harris campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a statement.
She added, “Vice President Harris is ready for debate 2. What about Donald Trump?”
The ABC-hosted debate was the first between Harris and Trump.
Trump faced off against former President Biden in the now-infamous June 27 debate, but the president performed so poorly that Democrats called for him to withdraw and he ultimately dropped out of the race.
The Harris campaign sounded confident, declaring her the winner of the debate in their first post-debate statement, with O'Malley Dillon saying she “dominated the stage on every issue” and calling Trump “totally incoherent.”
Leading up to the debate, Trump repeatedly criticized ABC and raised doubts about whether he would take part in the debate. Harris' campaign opposed the decision to mute microphones while the other candidates were speaking, but ultimately agreed to the rule, suggesting they had caved in to ensure the debate would go ahead.
