Vice President Kamala Harris has insisted that she will introduce a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions, despite former President Trump's earlier comments that he would allow exceptions for abortion.
“More than 20 states now have Trump's abortion bans on their books, making it a crime for doctors and nurses to practice medicine in their state, punishable by life in prison. Trump's abortion ban makes no exceptions for rape or incest, and we know what that means,” Harris said Tuesday night at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
“Victims of disembodied crimes have no right to decide what happens to their bodies. It's immoral, and you shouldn't have to abandon your faith or deeply held beliefs to agree that the government or Donald Trump should not dictate what happens to women's bodies.
“Please understand that if Donald Trump is re-elected, he will sign a nationwide abortion ban.”

Shortly before, Trump had said, like former President Ronald Reagan, that there should be exceptions for abortion.
“I believe there should be exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother,” Trump said during the debate. “I believe strongly in that. So did Ronald Reagan. 85 percent of Republicans knew that those exceptions were very important.”
In his rebuttal, Trump said he does not support a nationwide abortion ban, adding that Harris' comments were a “total lie.”
“When it comes to banning abortion, I'm not in favor of it, but that doesn't matter, because that issue is now up to the states,” Trump said.

Earlier this year, President Trump drew criticism from some pro-life conservatives for the Republican Party's soft-pedaling on abortion during this election cycle, and for saying last month that Florida's six-week abortion ban was “too short.” President Trump subsequently said he would vote against a Florida amendment that would legalize abortion up to the ninth month of pregnancy, emphasizing that abortion laws and issues should be left to individual states to decide.
