Vice President Harris visited the U.S. Olympic basketball team’s training camp in Nevada on Tuesday and offered words of encouragement ahead of Wednesday night’s friendly match against Canada.
“I just wanted to come out here and remind you that our country is rooting for you. We are so proud of you. Beat Canada and bring home the gold medal,” she said. The video was posted online.
Team USA’s gold medal quest in Paris begins on July 28 against Serbia.
Harris met with basketball stars Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Anthony Davis during her visit to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to a report from the investigative reporters. James reportedly said he enjoyed meeting the vice president.
Harris is a lifelong Golden State Warriors fan and also chatted with Warriors and U.S. Team Coach Steve Kerr during his visit.
The U.S. team will be trying to defend its gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the next few weeks, the team will play a series of exhibition games against countries such as Australia and Germany.
