Kamala Harris to Speak at Major Democratic Rally Amid 2028 Speculation
In what is likely to fuel discussions about the 2028 election, former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to join a large preseason Democratic rally next week, aimed at the upcoming White House race.
Harris will address the audience at the National Action Network’s 35th anniversary convention in New York City this Friday. The event, organized by Reverend Al Sharpton, provides Harris and other Democratic presidential hopefuls an opportunity to engage with a significant group of influential Black leaders and activists, who play a vital role in the party’s base.
This appearance adds to the growing buzz regarding her future political trajectory, hinting that Harris may be positioning herself for another presidential bid in 2028.
A political strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed, “Of course we’re reading the tea leaves. The only clear indication is that she will remain a crucial voice for the Democratic Party and the nation.” Harris had been relatively quiet after exiting the former Biden administration until she began generating attention again last spring and summer, stepping into a prominent fundraising role for the Democratic National Committee.
Her choice not to run for governor in California for the 2026 election was seen by many as a strategic move to prepare for a potential presidential run in 2028. Additionally, her national tour promoting her memoir about the 2024 campaign—where she took over as the Democratic nominee after Biden dropped out—has not only increased her visibility but also expanded her supporter base.
As Harris wraps up her six-month book tour, she plans to visit southern states later this month to support local parties with fundraising efforts. Notably, her stops include South Carolina, a pivotal early voting state in the Democratic primary calendar, as well as Georgia and North Carolina, both crucial battlegrounds. Harris had a narrow loss to Donald Trump in these states during the last election cycle.
A political strategist remarked, “Kamala Harris continues to be an incredibly inspirational force within the Democratic Party, especially among women, Black voters, and voters of color.” She has been actively participating in campaigning, producing advertisements for the Democratic National Committee and the Virginia Democratic Party in preparation for upcoming voting.
Recently, Harris endorsed Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Texas Democratic Senate primary and reached out to other primary winners following the elections.
On another front, Harris has voiced her criticism of President Trump’s military actions regarding Iran, arguing, “He has dragged America into a war that the people did not want, compromising our military while the costs keep mounting.” This remark was made before Trump’s recent prime-time address to the nation.
The reactions to Harris’s comments varied, with some conservatives, like Rep. Tom Emmer, asserting, “It’s pretty disgraceful for President Trump to claim he’s not doing anything to meet the needs of the American people.” This response signifies that Democrats aren’t the only ones who recognize Harris’s rising profile for the anticipated 2028 nomination.
Looking towards the future, the strategist concluded, “No one knows what she’s going to do in 2028, but until she reveals her plans, she will keep traveling and addressing the key issues and the damage caused by Trump and his administration, all while demonstrating how Democrats intend to counter that.”
