Harris Falsely Claims Trump Wants to ‘Terminate’ the Constitution

The claim: Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during Tuesday's debate that former President Donald Trump wants to “repeal” the U.S. Constitution.

Verdict: False. Ms. Harris took Mr. Trump's words completely out of context. Mr. Trump has no intention of “repealing” the Constitution lightly and has personally denied this lie.

“At the extreme, let's understand the context in which the 2024 election is taking place, the United States Supreme Court recently ruled that if a former president enters the White House, he is essentially immune from any wrongdoing,” Harris said.

“Once again, understand that this is a man who has publicly vowed to, and I quote, destroy the Constitution of the United States, used the Department of Justice as a weapon against his political opponents, and openly expressed his contempt for our military personnel,” Harris said, repeating some of the left's talking points that have been proven false.

“If Donald Trump returns to the White House without any guardrails, understand what that means, because we know for certain now that the courts can't stop him. We know that J.D. Vance can't stop him. It's up to the American people,” she said.

Harris' “abolish the Constitution” claim likely stems from his 2022 response to explosive reports that Democrats conspired with what was then known as Twitter Inc. to cover up stories about Hunter Biden's laptop before the 2020 presidential election.

“So now that you have uncovered massive and widespread fraud and deception in close collaboration with Big Tech companies, the DNC and the Democratic Party, will you overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election and declare a rightful winner, or will you hold a new election?” Trump asked on Truth Social at the time, suggesting that “massive fraud” of that scale could allow for the repeal of “all rules, regulations and provisions, including those set forth in the Constitution.”

Trump stressed that the Founding Fathers “did not want or condone a fraudulent or rigged election.”

The media then went crazy, and Trump set the record straight, making it clear that he had no intention of “repealing” the Constitution.

“The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American people that I said I wanted to 'repeal' the Constitution,” Trump said, denying the allegations.

“This is simply disinformation and lies, like every Russia, Russia, Russian hoax and fraud. I said, when there is 'massive and widespread fraud and deception,' as irrefutably proven in the 2020 Presidential election, steps must be taken immediately to correct the error,” he explained.

“Only a fool would oppose this and accept a stolen election. MAGA!” he added.
