Kamala Harris Promotes Memoir on The Late Show

Kamala Harris made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss her forthcoming memoir, which reflects on her unsuccessful presidential campaign. This follows the recent cancellation of the final episode of the show.

The memoir, titled 107 Days, references the notably brief duration of her campaign, which ended in her loss to President Donald Trump in 2024.

Colbert was the first to interview the former vice president since the election, providing her a chance to promote the book. Harris described it as “a personal and honest perspective” about her experiences during that period.

She noted that the narrative includes candid anecdotes about her husband, Doug Emhoff. With a chuckle, she hinted at more details, saying, “You have to read the book.”

Harris had entered the race after Joe Biden’s unexpected withdrawal, a decision that came after he had promised previously not to step back. The memoir captures her initial reactions and includes a photo from that day.

During the interview, Colbert asked about her sentiments leading up to Biden’s departure, particularly since many had urged her to distance herself from him.

“There was a lot of build-up at the time and I wasn’t going to be involved in it,” Harris stated.

Colbert also praised Harris for having anticipated the actions Trump might take if elected. He asked if she felt like saying, “I told you so.” She replied that those in the current GOP government seem “completely naive.”

“I’m not into self-harm,” Harris mentioned, explaining that she avoided watching television for months following the election results in 2024.

Instead, she turned to cooking shows, such as the UK’s “The Great British Bake Off.” Reflecting on Election Day, Harris added, “It was a day of rough sleep for me.”

“I’m going to be president. Some people are born and raised with the belief that I want to be president. That wasn’t me,” she acknowledged.

Despite expressing “hope and enthusiasm” for the future, Harris indicated she would remain distant from politics for now. She touched on the idea of potentially taking office again.

“I don’t want to go back to the system,” she remarked, asserting, “I think it’s broken.”
