During Tuesday's “CNN Newsnight” broadcast, anchor Abby Phillips said that Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, made a “very clear and deliberate choice” to avoid breaking with President Joe Biden in an interview with CNN last week, arguing that “Harris was unable to break with Biden in many ways because Trump was unable to sue her.”
“I feel like we've been talking about exactly that here at the table… Basically, the biggest problem with Kamala Harris since she entered this race as the top candidate is that Trump has not been able to speak out against her, and that has prevented her from breaking with Biden in many ways. She outlined what she's running for in an interview with CNN last week, but she has not broken with Joe Biden. To me, that seemed like a very clear and deliberate choice on her part,” Phillips said.
She added: “The Post Good headline…'Biden is suddenly getting his best poll numbers in years.“All of a sudden, he pulls out of the race. The country is the same, nothing has changed since he pulled out of the race. But voters view him more favorably. So is this really a policy issue, or is it because a lot of people think he's too old to run again?”
