Kamal Harris Announces New Book Ahead of 2024 Presidential Bid
Former Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up for her involvement in the presidential race, eyeing the 2024 election. In a recent social media video, she revealed that her upcoming book, titled “107 Days,” will delve into what’s described as “The Shortest Presidential Election Campaign in Modern History,” set to release in September.
“I think there’s something valuable about sharing my experiences and insights,” Harris stated.
She took on the role of the Democratic presidential candidate for 2024 after dropping out of the race last July. This decision followed intense scrutiny regarding her physical and mental stamina, particularly after a notably poor debate performance this year against then-President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.
Feeling a bit playful, Harris hinted, “What people saw during the campaign is merely part of the entire story.” This announcement came a day after she confirmed she wouldn’t be running for governor of California in 2026. However, she left open the possibility for a second presidential bid in 2028.
In her statement on Wednesday concerning her choice, Harris remarked, “At this time, my leadership and public service will not be tied to elected office.” She expressed eagerness to connect with Americans around the country and share her plans for the upcoming months.
After losing to Trump last year and serving the remainder of his term, Harris returned to California to collaborate closely with her trusted advisors.
Some political analysts and members of her inner circle suggest that Harris could still have a shot at the governor’s seat in California, a state known for its significant political and economic influence. But with her recent decision, those considerations seem rather distant.
If she does embark on her 2028 presidential campaign, she’d likely be one of the most recognizable Democratic figures within a crowded field of candidates. Her extensive fundraising network from last cycle could play a crucial role.
A Democratic strategist stated, “She will definitely be taken seriously in the primaries, should she decide to run.” However, there is a sense of concern among some Democrats that she might carry the weight of political baggage from the 2024 campaign, which saw Democrats lose not just the White House but also the Senate and the House.
Amid the party’s struggle to find its direction, there is a clear sentiment for a fresh start. “If we want to change the party’s trajectory, it’s tough to rally behind someone who’s previously faltered against Trump,” remarked a Democratic consultant.
As Harris navigates these tumultuous political waters, the spotlight remains on her decision regarding the governor’s race. Other potential Democratic candidates for 2028 have already begun making moves, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, Illinois’ JB Pritzker, and Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, among others.
