Harris Is a ‘Pragmatist’, But ‘Kind of Took a Walk on the Left’ for a Bit

On CNN's “Laura Coates Live” on Tuesday, CNN political commentator and former Obama adviser Van Jones said that 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris is “pragmatic” and “not left-wing,” though she did “walk a left-wing path” in 2020.

Jones first said that when he listens to Harris, “she's not a crazy extremist,” and continued, “First of all, the Republican Party has been into this pogo-stick movement for the last three months where Kamala has moved to the left, but Kamala is not a leftist. That's not true. I voted for Kamala Harris for district attorney, attorney general, vice president, and I'm going to vote for her for president. Kamala Harris is a pragmatist. She's a pragmatist, and that's why I think we need to get her out there more. In 2020, the whole Democratic Party did weird things and talked about all sorts of things that don't make sense now. They were talking about cutting the police budget, all sorts of things. The Democratic Party woke up with a hangover and ran to Biden. Remember, we got out of that pogo-stick state with Biden in 2020. The Republican Party wants to keep talking about things that we haven't talked about for four years. Kamala Harris has been a capable and strong backup for Biden for four years. Now she needs to come forward and let us know who she is.”
