Kamala Harris Reflects on Conversations with Trump
In her upcoming memoir, former Vice President Kamala Harris shares insights from a conversation she had with President Trump during the 2024 election. Trump, she recounts, had promised to tone down his rhetoric, stating, “I’m going to adjust that. I will. You’re going to see it.”
Harris narrates a story from the 107 days leading up to the election, mentioning a man who was arrested while golfing in Florida. This individual had allegedly attempted to assassinate Trump. Following this incident, Trump condemned Harris and former President Biden, blaming their “rhetoric” for inciting violence against him.
He remarked, “Their rhetoric is shooting me when I’m the one trying to save the country and they’re the ones destroying it,” according to Harris.
During a phone call, Harris said she asked her staff to reach out to Trump. Trump complimented her efforts, saying, “You did a great job, you really have it. My only problem is that it makes it so hard to get mad at you. That’s what I’m going to do?”
When Harris advised him to avoid speaking negatively about her, she noted that Trump agreed to work on his rhetoric. However, she was cautious, writing, “He’s a con man. He’s really good at it.” She expected a more confrontational approach but found him surprisingly cordial.
In response to the assassination attempt, both Harris and Biden issued a statement denouncing political violence. “When we gather the facts, it becomes clear. I condemn political violence,” Harris stated. She emphasized the need for collective effort to prevent such incidents from escalating further.
Additionally, Harris reflected on her call with Trump in which she urged him to help unite the country. Trump responded by acknowledging her resilience, saying, “You’re a tough, clever customer, and I say it with great respect.”
Her memoir, titled “107 Days,” detailing her presidential campaign, is set to be released next week. She has plans to tour 15 cities, including stops in the UK and Canada, to promote the book.
