Harris says her ‘values’ remain the same despite multiple policy flip-flops

Vice President Kamala Harris assured the Democratic left that her “values” on issues such as energy independence and health care have not changed, even as she said she no longer stands by her past comments.

Harris' interview with CNN's Dana Bash was her first since dropping out of the race after it became clear that President Joe Biden was unlikely to win this year's election. During the interview, she was accompanied by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“My values about what needs to be done to secure the border. Those values haven't changed.”

CNN aired a preview of the interview at 4 p.m. The full interview will air at 9 p.m.

“Generally speaking, how should voters view some of the changes that you've outlined in your platform? … Is it because you were running for president in the Democratic primary? And should voters feel comfortable and confident that what you're saying now is going to be policy going forward?” Bash asked.

“Dana, I think the most important and significant thing about my policy views and decisions is that my values have not changed. You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed and committed to the climate crisis being real and an urgent issue that should be subject to standards like deadlines. We did that with the Stop Inflation Act,” Harris said, acknowledging that the Stop Inflation Act was not about stopping inflation but about imposing progressive policies.

“My values about what needs to be done to secure our borders have not changed. As Attorney General of California for two terms, I have worked to prosecute international criminal organizations and violations of U.S. law involving the illegal movement of guns, drugs and people across our borders. My values have not changed,” Harris said.

Harris did not answer Bash's questions, but Bash later said Harris gave broad answers and promised to go into specific examples of her purported changes in policy positions in other parts of the interview.

Former President Donald Trump's campaign shared some of Harris' extreme positions, adding to each post, “My values have not changed.”
