Harris-Walz campaign sells out of new Taylor Swift-inspired merch after endorsement

(NEXSTAR) – Taylor Swift fans are used to waiting for the global pop star's album releases, concert tickets and new merchandise. And now, after celebrating Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris after Tuesday's debate, they're faced with a familiar sight: the Harris-Waltz campaign's Swift-inspired merchandise is selling out.

Shortly after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president, the Harris-Waltz campaign unveiled its own friendship bracelets featuring the candidate's name.

The message “Are you ready?” Bracelet Product Description KamalaHarris.com reads, “Harris and Waltz friendship bracelets are now in stores!” in an apparent homage to Swift's 2017 song, “…Ready For It?”

The bracelets, which come in a set of two, have blue and black straps with the names “Harris” and “Waltz” written in white beads on each. Initially available for pre-order only with a shipping date of September 24th, they are currently sold out on the campaign website.

Representatives for the campaign did not immediately comment on how many units were available or whether more would be made available in the coming days.

Swift fans have been wearing and exchanging friendship bracelets for years, and the trend was inspired by lyrics from her 2022 song “You're on Your Own Kid,” off her album “Midnights.”

“So make some friendship bracelets and live the moment/There's no reason to be scared,” Swift sings.

In the weeks leading up to the first presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift's fans speculated that the pop star was planning to endorse a candidate.

In the postInstagram Shortly after Tuesday's debate concluded, Swift ultimately urged her followers to “find out where the candidates stand on the issues at hand and the topics that matter most to you.”

She went on to express concern about the use of AI-generated images to falsely endorse former President Donald Trump, explaining that this prompted her to “be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter” and formally endorse Harris.

Swift signed her lengthy message “kidfree cat lady,” a reference to past comments made by Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Trump's running mate.

Vance has received backlash for the comments, which he made on Fox News in 2021. At the time, he told former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson that he believes Democrats are pushing an “anti-family” agenda led by “a bunch of child-free catwomen who are miserable about their lives and the choices they've made, and they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

The comment resurfaced after Trump added Vance to his list of nominees and quickly became a running joke for Democrats, but Vance has repeatedly tried to brush it off as “sarcastic” or a “joke.”

Swift also endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.
