The Kamala Harris campaign has done its best to portray her running mate, Tim Walz, as an average guy, a moderate independent who has served her country.
The strategy seemed to work at first, until new details about the Minnesota governor’s military service emerged.
Allie Beth Stuckey The editors at Relatable were not impressed with Harris’ choice.
“I think he’s a very dishonest individual when it comes to something very serious – serving his country,” Stuckey said. “He’s now been accused of deployment evasion and false honors after a video resurfaced of him claiming to have been in combat when in fact he never did.”
In the video, Walz can be seen speaking to the crowd about gun control, telling the audience that that’s the only place weapons of war that he carried into war should be kept.
Now, Harris’ campaign is arguing that Waltz simply “misspoke.”
Stuckey points out that he made it clear he “possessed weapons of war” and doesn’t believe it.
“He never actually deployed; he retired to go into politics in 2005, before his unit was deployed to Iraq,” Stuckey said.
J.D. Vance, former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, was also not impressed with Waltz’s lies.
“When the United States Marine Corps, the United States of America, asked me to go to Iraq and serve my country, I did so. I followed their call, I did so honorably, and I am very proud of that service,” Vance said in a recent speech.
“When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, what do you think he did? He quit the military and let his unit go without him. This has been condemned by many of the people who served with him. I find it shameful,” he added.
After speaking with several major news networks, including CNN, Vance posted a new piece on the X Channel criticizing the Harris-Waltz campaign.
“I had the pleasure of sitting down with all three major networks today to answer the tough questions every leader must answer. Kamala Harris has had as many tough interviews as Tim Walz has been deployed to battlefields,” Vance wrote.
“That’s a very effective way to attack both of the other candidates, and that’s what they should do,” Stuckey said in a strong statement.
