Harrisburg fire chief discusses challenges fighting governor’s mansion fire

Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterraline closed the door to save a life during a fire that ran through the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion.

Enterline said at a media conference Monday that his department faced challenges finding where the fire is and gaining admission to the complex.

“We can’t just drive a truck in front of things,” Enterline said. “We had to cut some gates.”

The fire chief said he was able to “lock that fire out of spread quickly” once access was obtained.

“When I got there about 15 minutes later, it was a very surreal scene,” he added, saying he was a very important firefighter who saved the evidence left behind by the alleged arsonist for investigators.

“For the governor and his family, the doors are closed between that main part of the ballroom and the corridor, leading to the main and master stairs that go upstairs,” Enterline said. “It’s a completely different fire, and it’s likely that most of the time that door wasn’t closed.”

Pennsylvania State Police arrested the suspect after the governor’s mansion was set on fire.
