Harrison Ford Reflects on Career and New Role
Harrison Ford, known for a long list of memorable characters, recently shared that his latest film roles might be the most meaningful to him. At a recent event in Los Angeles, the 83-year-old actor spoke about portraying Paul, a complicated therapist battling Parkinson’s disease. In the series, he guides younger therapists like Jimmy, played by Jason Segel, and Gabby, portrayed by Jessica Williams. This character is inspired by Bill Lawrence’s own mentor and is a significant part of Ford’s career, especially given his friendship with Michael J. Fox, who has lived with Parkinson’s for years.
“If everything is here, that’s enough for me,” Ford remarked during the panel discussion. He emphasized how special this project felt, saying it nurtures him and reinforces the importance of their work.
He expressed gratitude toward the show’s creators, including Lawrence, Segel, and Brett Goldstein, especially for the chance to play a character with Parkinson’s disease alongside Fox, who made a guest appearance in the season three premiere.
“It was a little daunting because I’m playing a character who has Parkinson’s disease and Michael has real Parkinson’s disease,” he explained. For Ford, embodying Paul offers an opportunity to delve into a more humane and emotionally rich character while raising awareness of significant issues.
“I’ve been looking for that my whole life, and I’m glad I found it here,” he said, noting how meaningful this role has become for him.
The series, which focuses on therapy, has garnered Ford his first Primetime Emmy nomination in 2025, a milestone made even sweeter by being nominated alongside fellow actors Siegel, Jessica Williams, and Michael Urie.
Actress Christa Miller, who plays Jimmy’s neighbor Liz, expressed praise for Fox, stating, “There’s no one better. Michael J. Fox has the best timing of any comedic actor I’ve ever worked with.” She also mentioned her difficulties in securing a scene with him this season.
In the second half of the season three premiere, Paul experiences hallucinations of Fox’s character, raising hopes that audiences may see more of him in future episodes.
Season 3, Episode 1 is currently available for streaming, with new episodes releasing on Wednesdays.
