Harrison says Democrats should focus on ‘building on the infrastructure that we have’

Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairman Jamie Harrison said in an interview Sunday that Democrats should focus on building on existing infrastructure that is still in place from past election cycles. .

In an interview on NewsNation's “The Hill Sunday,” Harrison added that he believes he is leaving the DNC in a better position than when he found it.

“I actually think the DNC that I'm handing over the keys to the next chair is much stronger than the DNC that I had. And that's what you want.” Harrison said. “I want to see if he's turning over better than before.”

Harrison said the DNC invested $260 million in the state party and provided the next speaker with a foundation to build infrastructure.

“For the first time in a very long time, we've put money into every state party, all 50 states, territories, and overseas Democratic parties. And those are the resources, the infrastructure building that this new chair can build upon. “It helped me,” Harrison said. “But there is still much work to be done.”

Harrison said that although Vice President Harris lost in the top race, there are still several battleground states where Democrats defeated Republicans in the Senate race.

“The election results weren't what we wanted. It had to do with the top of the ticket, but when you start looking at the back of the ticket…we still have a lot to do with these precincts. And even in the states, we've won in very hotly contested legislative elections, as we did in North Carolina, and we've won almost every statewide election except for the presidential election.” said Harrison.

“So now is not the time to tear everything down and start anew. Now is the time to build on the infrastructure we have so that we can once again secure the White House for the American people in 2028.”
