Kamala Harris Shares Insights in New Memoir

In her recently published memoir titled “107 Days,” former Vice President Kamala Harris discusses her discomfort with President Joe Biden’s response during a debate regarding the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Diving into the debate between Biden and Donald Trump in 2024, Harris portrays it as a significant misstep. Biden struggled to articulate his thoughts clearly and seemed a bit out of sorts. It wasn’t a good look, especially with noticeable vocal issues stemming from a cold.

Harris pointed out that Biden posed a straightforward question to the military but failed to acknowledge the tragic loss of 13 U.S. service members during the withdrawal. She reflected on his assertion that he was “the only president of the century” without any military deaths, which was misleading. In fact, those lost included 11 Marines, one soldier, and one Navy corpsman due to a suicide bombing near Kabul Airport.

Interestingly, Harris noted that Biden faced queries about the economy first during their discussions in June 2024.

The military was the next topic of interest, particularly regarding Biden’s oversight of the fallout from Afghanistan—a dark chapter for his administration. Harris mentioned that Biden’s thoughts ran through experiences with Trump’s past comments about soldiers, which shaped his reactions as he grappled with his role as commander-in-chief.

She wrote that Biden, before the major debate with Trump, expressed feelings of anger, perhaps signaling how much this issue weighed on him personally.

The chaos surrounding the Afghanistan withdrawal has ignited widespread criticism. Some, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, argue that the mismanagement made the U.S. appear weak globally, opening the door for aggressive moves by adversaries like Russia in Ukraine. As a result, the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan once U.S. troops left.

Families of the lost service members have publicly blamed Biden and Harris for the fatalities, voicing deep resentment over the support—or lack thereof—they received from the administration.

Moreover, Biden faced backlash for his demeanor during a dignified transfer ceremony where he was seen checking his watch, a moment that many interpreted as insensitive.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to Harris’ office for clarity on why she labeled the fallen service members exclusively as “Marines,” but did not receive an immediate response. Biden’s office also opted not to comment.

Harris’ memoir, which will be available on Tuesday, encapsulates her experiences during a tumultuous period in her political career, especially after Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race due to concerns regarding his capacity. She plans to promote the book with tours in cities like New York and San Francisco.
