Harry Hall’s mind-boggling playoff chip-in, breakthrough 1st PGA Tour victory

The Bluegrass State has produced an ISCO Championship winner, as Harry Hall defeated four other players in a playoff to win his first PGA Tour event.

He, Matt Nesmith, Pierson Coody, Zach Blair and Rico Hoey all finished at 22 under and headed into extra holes.

Blair and Hoey both bogeyed the first hole of the playoff, and all three made par to head into the third extra hole.

That’s when Hall made his magic happen. Donated He won with a birdie from outside the green.

“Before I chipped in, I was thinking Phil Lowe would want me to chip in and win a PGA Tour event,” Hall said after his win. “He was my coach in college. I was just thinking about him walking in. Oh man, it felt so good.”

Hall shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to reach the playoff, while Nesmith and Blair both shot 8-under 64s to make the match interesting.

Coody, who led for much of the tournament, shot a 2-under 70, his worst score of the week, but he kept his cool to finish runner-up.

The win also counts as a PGA Tour and DP World Tour victory. Hall turned professional in 2019 and earned an exemption to the DP World Tour by playing in the Walker Cup. However, things didn’t go as originally planned.

“I was supposed to go to the Hero Indian Open but then Covid happened and I was forced to stay in the US. I had conditional eligibility on the Korn Ferry Tour so I haven’t been able to play in the US since,” Hall said. “Now I can play a signature event in the UK and hopefully I can play in front of my home crowd. Hopefully that will be the case.”

This win may have come in a tournament of different caliber, but that doesn’t make it any easier — Hall still had to win against talented players.

This is a huge moment in Hall’s career as he continues to carve his own path on the professional circuit, and since achieving this first victory, his goals have become incredibly lofty.

“I want a green jacket. That’s been my goal since I was a kid,” he said. “This win brings me one step closer to that and cements me on the PGA Tour for the next few years.”

“I’ve proven I can win here. I’m consistent under pressure and my game is exactly where I need to be. I don’t think anyone can take this record away from me now. It’s pretty cool to come from a little place in my hometown and win on the PGA Tour.”
