Harvey Weinstein Claims “Mistaken Guilty” in Prison Interview
In a rare prison interview, Harvey Weinstein, who was found guilty of serious sexual offenses in 2020 and 2022, expressed his belief that he is “mistaken guilty.” This marked his first significant on-camera discussion since the allegations against him came to light. Weinstein, who denied forcing any women, asserted this during his chat with Candace Owens, a conservative commentator.
“I’ve hurt my family, my friends. I deceived my wife. It was a mistake— a terrible mistake,” Weinstein said, insisting he did not commit the crimes for which he was convicted. “I swear to God and to my family, I did not do it.”
He acknowledged being a difficult boss, saying, “I wasn’t a good manager. I was tough, and I should have handled things better. I had no temper, but I could have controlled myself more effectively.”
Weinstein dismissed the sexual assault claims from actress Gwyneth Paltrow as “completely manufactured,” claiming he “didn’t touch her.” He mentioned that their past interactions were misrepresented, recalling a supportive gesture from Paltrow when he was seriously ill back in 1999.
He also admitted to settling with actress Rose McGowan for $100,000, seeking to keep her quiet about their encounter at the Sundance Film Festival. “I paid Rose McGowan to buy peace and avoid legal battles,” he remarked.
The disgraced producer stated he still has supporters in the film industry but acknowledged a broader fear of speaking out due to potential backlash. He claimed to be offering feedback on scripts to friends, saying, “I still help out. It’s not for me; I’m doing it for them.”
The complete interview with Owens is set to air on YouTube on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gloria Allred, an attorney representing some of Weinstein’s more than 80 accusers, dismissed his claims, highlighting his reluctance to testify under oath. “What matters now is the evidence for his upcoming trial,” she noted, suggesting that any testimony he offers could be crucial.
As it stands, Weinstein is facing new charges involving one third-degree rape count and has been connected to various allegations from former model Kaja Sokora and others.
