Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

On Wednesday, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber handed down a 15-year prison sentence to Harvey Weinstein.

During the sentencing, Weinstein appealed for leniency, as the prosecution highlighted his alleged scheme involving a $1.75 million offer to a podcaster to tarnish the reputations of his victims, as reported by The New York Post.

At 74 years old, the convicted rapist showed no visible reaction when the judge characterized him as a “sexual predator” driven by an “insatiable appetite for sexual dominance.”

Miriam Haley, one of his accusers, recounted her assault in Weinstein’s Manhattan apartment on July 10, 2006. She claimed that after coming forward with her accusations, he employed private investigators to track her, leaving her feeling constantly distrustful and paranoid.

Haley expressed that the experience has led her to “question every encounter I have,” according to The New York Post.

In court, prosecutors claimed they had recorded Weinstein during a jailphone call where he allegedly offered the podcaster $1.75 million to release footage of witnesses aimed at influencing the jury before and after the trial.

Before receiving his sentence, Weinstein addressed the courtroom, acknowledging, “I am not a perfect person. I am a person who has made mistakes.”

Speaking from his wheelchair, he added, “I really do have remorse for Miriam Haley.”

Haley remarked that the ordeal felt like a trial for her as well, stating, “It’s a life sentence for me.”

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg chose not to reveal the name of the podcaster involved.
