Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was rushed to a New York City hospital for treatment for a variety of ailments, including COVID-19, cardiopulmonary edema and high blood pressure, his representative confirmed Thursday.
A 72-year-old woman awaiting trial in New York on rape and sexual assault charges was transferred from New York City’s Rikers Island Jail to a closed ward at Bellevue Hospital late Thursday for emergency treatment.
Other ailments for which Weinstein was due to be treated included diabetes, spinal stenosis and various forms of pneumonia, according to a statement from Weinstein’s spokesman, who said the health information came from Weinstein’s prison adviser, Craig Rothfeld.
“We continue to express our gratitude to the staff, doctors and nurses at the city’s correctional facilities and public hospital system who worked tirelessly to ensure Mr. Weinstein was immediately transferred to Bellevue Hospital Prison Unit,” spokesman Judah Engelmeyer said. according to The Associated Press.
Weinstein was convicted in New York in 2020 of raping and sexually assaulting actress Jessica Mann and forcing oral sex on a production assistant, Breitbart News reported.

The court found that the judge erred in allowing the testimony of plaintiffs who had not formally accused Weinstein of assault.
During a brief hearing in a Manhattan courtroom on Friday, Judge Curtis Farber tentatively set a Nov. 12 start date for Weinstein’s retrial.
The judge said details of the trial would be discussed at a hearing on September 12.
Weinstein’s New York conviction was overturned, but he remains serving a 16-year prison sentence for rape in California.
