Harvey Weinstein undergoes tests at Bellevue

Movie molester Harvey Weinstein has returned to Manhattan and is undergoing a series of medical tests at an Upper East Side hospital, his lawyer said.

“Doctors told him it was like a 100,000-mile car and needed an oil change,” attorney Arthur Aidala said. “His health is not good. They are doing a lot of tests.”

The 72-year-old “Pulp Fiction” producer had been serving 23 years at Upstate Mohawk Correctional Facility when he learned Thursday that the New York State Court of Appeals had overturned his 2020 rape conviction. He was then transferred to the prison ward at Bellevue Hospital, Aidala said. He claimed he did not know details about the producer’s condition.

If Weinstein had not gone to the hospital, he would have been returned to Rikers Island prison. Because he is under government protection, such hospitalization costs would normally be covered by taxpayers.

In overturning Weinstein’s conviction, the appeals court ruled that the judge in Weinstein’s trial biased the jury by allowing the woman to testify about allegations unrelated to the case. I put it down. New York prosecutors have indicated they intend to retry Weinstein’s charges.

After a trial in Los Angeles, he was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison in 2022 for forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and insertion of a foreign object.

By the time the trial began, dozens of women had accused Weinstein of sexual assault and molestation. The accusations relate to the producer’s casting couch and helped usher in the #YouToo movement, which encourages women to speak out about sexual assault.
