Hasan Piker Expresses Concerns Over Treasury Investigation
Far-left influencer Hasan Piker has shared his worries with followers regarding an investigation by the Treasury Department linked to his recent visit to Cuba. He admitted, “it’s not great.”
Reports indicate that federal agents have issued subpoenas to both Piker and Medea Benjamin from Code Pink as part of the Nuestra America Convoy investigation. This convoy included a mix of North American and European activists who traveled to Havana in March, purportedly to deliver humanitarian aid and protest against President Trump’s blockade of the island.
Piker commented during a livestream on Sunday, saying, “It’s not great. That news isn’t great, is it? Hmm, I mean, it’s crap. But it’s still not great… the fact that they’re going after your son is crap, but it’s still not great. They’re pissing my ass off.”
He also suggested that the Trump administration was specifically targeting him as a “loud inciter of the mob” due to his outspoken criticism of Israel and support for various anti-Israel candidates.
The subpoena mandates that Piker provide financial, logistical, and communications details related to his trip. Authorities are examining whether he and his group broke any U.S. laws or sanctions aimed at supporting Cuba’s communist government.
Piker faced backlash during his trip for choosing to stay in a luxury hotel while many Cubans endured a nationwide power outage. He defended his choice by citing U.S. sanctions that he claimed necessitated staying at a specific five-star hotel, given that the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control forbids U.S. travelers from residing in accommodations owned by the Cuban government or military.
Additionally, Piker and his group might attract scrutiny for allegedly coordinating aid with the Cuban regime or affiliates connected to it.
He insists the journey was “fully approved by the Treasury Department,” stating, “I feel like I’m being used as an example of America rushing toward fascism.”
