Hasan Piker stands by his use of ‘inbred’ and ‘Zionist pig’ towards critics

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker spoke out in a detailed interview with NPR, defending his use of controversial phrases like “inbred” and “Zionist pig” when targeting his opponents. When asked about the backlash he has faced regarding these comments, Piker suggested that much of the criticism is tied to his heritage rather than just the inflammatory remarks themselves.

Piker admitted that he sometimes uses provocative language but felt that similar comments from a White, Christian American don’t receive the same scrutiny. “Of course, I, you know, say incendiary things,” he noted, highlighting the disparity in perceptions based on identity.

NPR host Leila Fadel then challenged him on the apparent contradiction of a person who feels dehumanized also using degrading language, particularly towards Jewish individuals. Piker responded that he has a “policy to be ruthless” toward those he sees as bullies or adherents of harmful ideologies. He argued that his use of terms like “inbred” is directed at right-wing ideologies, which often emphasize notions of ethnic or racial purity. Piker insisted that such language is not meant to be taken literally.

Similarly, he applied his rationale to the term “pig,” claiming he utilizes such language universally against various targets without regard to background. “It gets heated at times,” Piker remarked, reflecting on his passionate nature and how frustration sometimes drives his comments. He maintained that his outbursts are seldom directed at individuals for their identities but rather at their actions.

The Israeli-American Council (IAC) responded to Piker’s remarks with criticism, emphasizing the dangers of dehumanizing rhetoric, especially in light of historical violence against Jews. The IAC’s statement connected Piker’s comments to broader societal issues and underscored the real-world implications of such language.

Piker, who faced a ban from Twitch earlier this year for his controversial comments, has a history of criticizing Zionism and Israel. Throughout this period, some Democratic figures have distanced themselves from him, particularly after his warning to American Jews about potential violence linked to their support for Israel.
