Hasan Piker Comments on Lindsay Clancy Case Following Mistrial

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker expressed his confusion over the support for prosecutors in the case of Lindsay Clancy, after her triple-murder trial recently ended in mistrial. In a livestream that circulated on Sunday, he shared his thoughts with viewers, indicating that he believed the defense had presented compelling evidence suggesting that postpartum psychosis influenced Clancy’s actions in the deaths of her three children.

Piker articulated that the key question in this case is not so much whether she committed the acts, but rather whether they were a deliberate choice or a result of postpartum psychosis. “It seems like the defense offered substantial evidence that postpartum psychosis likely played a role,” he stated, expressing his bewilderment at those assuming she acted out of cruelty, which leans towards the prosecutors’ perspective.

Piker further commented that Clancy had been “failed by the medical system.” A watchdog account, DSA Watch, responded by labeling his remarks as a defense of a woman who “murdered her 3 children,” while also asserting that no doctors involved in her care indicated she was experiencing psychosis.

Clancy, who is 36, confessed to strangling her five-year-old daughter Cora, three-year-old son Dawson, and eight-month-old son Callan in their Duxbury home in 2023 before attempting suicide. Her defense argued that severe postpartum psychosis rendered her incapable of understanding her actions, while prosecutors maintained that she planned the killings and recognized their wrongfulness.

On September 4, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision following seven days of deliberation, with reports suggesting an 11-1 split favoring an acquittal on the grounds of insanity. A last-minute plea from the defense to the state’s highest court to remove a single juror who held out against acquittal was unsuccessful. Now, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz is tasked with deciding whether to pursue a retrial.

Piker’s views align with a growing wave of public sympathy for Clancy, with numerous supporters donning pink to rally at the Plymouth courthouse and nearly $1 million raised for her family. Former President Donald Trump referred to the situation as “a horrible tragedy,” adding that he expected there would be another trial.

“I’ll be making that decision shortly,” Cruz commented on the future of the case.
