Move over the grimace.
Haley Welch, known as Hawk Tua Girl, took to social media to congratulate the Mets on their recent playoff berth after a controversial first pitch in an August game.
The Mets were criticized for giving Welch, who gained internet fame after talking about sexual acts in on-the-street interviews, a platform to gain fame and engage with the team.
But Welch was having a little fun with the drama, posting a series of photoshopped images of himself from the Mets' win over the Braves on Monday to advance to the playoffs, followed by a Game 1 win over the Brewers. Tuesday.
“We were so excited to throw out the first pitch,” Welch said. She said her recent appearance was in conjunction with a program the team was running for veterinary dogs. on her new podcast “Talk Tuah.”
“We had a really good day and the whole team was great. Then when we left, I saw everyone like posting things like, 'Why is she here?' ”
Grimas has been a mascot of sorts for the Mets since the first-pitch-throwing McDonald character was introduced just as the team was beginning to find success early in the season.
The same can be said about Welch, although it didn't start out that way.
On that day, August 15, the Mets led 5-0 before losing to the Athletics 7-6, falling 62-59 and ending their postseason hopes.
However, the Mets won 27 of their final 41 games and earned a wild-card berth on the rain-delayed final day of the season.
Welch will be there as well.
