Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) is asking the Senate Homeland Security Committee to require Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray to testify after the New Orleans attack.
Hawley sent a letter to the committee's incoming chairman, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), stressing that Biden administration officials “cannot shirk their public responsibilities” as President Biden's term ends. did.
“When the 119th Congress convenes next week and you assume leadership of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, I urge you to immediately call Mr. Mayorkas and Mr. Wray to testify publicly before you leave office,” Hawley said. he said.
Hawley wants a “full account of this attack” and highlights any failures by his department.
The attack was carried out by American national Shamsuddin Jabbar, who drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more.
Authorities believe others were involved, and the FBI is investigating the incident as an “act of terrorism.”
“My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were just trying to celebrate the holiday,” President Biden said. “Violence of any kind is not justified and we will not tolerate attacks against any community in our country.”
