‘He Gets Us’ Responds to Controversy over Super Bowl Commercials

Commercials focused on Jesus from He gets us The campaign ranked in the top half of America's favorite Super Bowl ads on Sunday, but again sparked online debate between Christians and non-Christians.

According to USA Today's, the ad entitled “What Is Greatness?” ranks 26th out of 57 ads Advertising meterwhich includes a panel of viewers who determine which ads were broadcast during the national broadcast.

60 seconds He gets us The commercial includes photos of individuals showing acts of kindness. After that, “Jesus really showed us what greatness is. He got us. He showed us all.” Then, he went to the website to viewers. I'm inviting you to do so. hegetsus.com.

Crosswalk headlines approached Come Near, the CEO of the campaign's parent organization, to respond to criticism and share his vision for the ad. Come near me after he won us in 2024.

Crosswalk Headline: The He Gets Us campaign has received a lot of criticism from both the right and left. Meanwhile, the campaign has a new owner. What is his goal to get his campaign? And what's getting closer for those who aren't used to coming near you?
Come near CEO Ken Calwell: He has us inviting us to all people to consider or reconsider who Jesus is and why he is important. We are involved in leading the project, and we approach Come Come, a network of collaborators and partners bring him in, bringing us to a wide audience, and public conversations about Jesus. I believe in the value of raising.

We know that He Gets Us Project is a unique approach with a variety of perspectives and responses. There are many opinions on how to share Jesus' message. We focus on developing a growing portfolio of projects that command destructive and engaging stories and experiences that reveal the real Jesus.

Come Near is an idea and innovation studio that was over a year old.

Whether the project was created and launched by Come Near or a product of collaboration and acceleration in partner work, it offers a wide range of platforms and world-class creative talent and execution. Most people working on projects nearby come from brands, creative and commercial backgrounds.

Last year, we have grown and diversified our portfolio of boards, staff, partners and advisors, helping to develop a variety of projects.

Crosswalk: One of his biggest criticisms is getting us from people within the Christian community. In other words, commercials say nothing about sin and salvation, nothing about it. cross and revivalthere is nothing about Jesus being God. How do you respond to those criticisms?
Calwell: I encourage people to explore comenear.org To gain a greater sense of our organization and our mission. When we come near, we need Jesus as God, God is love, and we are called to love as He loves, and we need the Holy Spirit to love. And these beliefs come to life when we observe Jesus' man and discover his cadence, his emotional core, and his steps towards others.

The He Gets Us Project aims to reach a specific audience and open the door for people to explore or rethink Jesus' people and teachings. The campaign creates spaces for people to explore his story without immediately encountering potentially divisive theological concepts. It's an invitation to come near you and think about Jesus in a new way.

Crosswalk: His website includes a Bible reading plan and a gospel presentation. Can I say that TV commercials are a gospel funnel?
Calwell: We believe that Jesus is good news, which means the gospel. He is trying to take us to invite people to explore who Jesus is, what he said, what he modeled.

Crosswalk: This year's Super Bowl commercial focuses on one theme: What is greatness? Could you explain the focus of the commercial and why I think it's important to shine the spotlight in modern America?
Calwell: “What is great?” Jesus spoke and considers the modeled definition of greatness, how culture frequently defines greatness today, and what it means for each and every one of us. We invite all of us to do so. The focus on greatness defined by our culture – wealth, achievement, status and power is in stark contrast to what Jesus defined as greatness. We want to create moments and invite reflection on the impact of incredible love, hope, compassion and service facing each other.

Our team was inspired by how Jesus challenged cultural misconceptions about the greatness of his time. Luke 22:24-27 And the definition of true greatness that Jesus spoke and demonstrated Matthew 23:11 and Mark 10:42-45.

We take Jesus' words seriously about greatness. Jesus says that true greatness is seen in descending to serve others, rather than climbing to the top. Rather than accumulating wealth and power for ourselves, we will give us away with love.

It is not easy to embrace this countercultural view of greatness. Our culture constantly reinforces the message of self-promotion and status exploration. But when we look at Jesus' model, we are sure that the reward is immeasurable.
