Democratic-aligned health advocacy groups are launching a series of digital ads in key Republican districts to highlight how the nation’s lawmakers oppose the Biden administration’s efforts to lower drug prices and health care costs. are doing.
The $1 million campaign from Protect Our Care, first shared with The Hill, launched Wednesday and is targeting House Republicans who represent districts won by President Biden in 2020: David Rep. Schweikert (Arizona), Rep. David Valadao (California), Rep. Mike Garcia (California), and Rep. Mike Lawler (New York).
The ad will also run in the district of Republican Rep. Brett Guthrie of Kentucky, who chairs the Energy, Commerce and Health subcommittee.
Each member featured in the ad opposed or spoke out against the Inflation Control Act (IRA), which capped insulin prices for Medicare beneficiaries at $35 per month and gave Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices.
Digital campaigns reach people through over-the-top/streaming media such as YouTube, Hulu, and Meta. The group is organizing through a combination of advertising and on-the-ground events to ensure people in these communities are informed about these reforms.
The IRA is one of the most important drug market reforms in decades, and figures prominently in the Biden campaign’s efforts to send a message about lowering health care costs.
Still, the final negotiated price for Medicare won’t kick in until 2026, and polls show the public knows little about what the administration has been doing.
“We will continue to shine a spotlight on the benefits passed in the Inflation Control Act and educate the American people about where members of Congress stand on these issues,” Protect Our Care Committee Chair Leslie Duck said in a statement. ” he said. “It’s unbelievable that Republicans supported Big Pharma and voted against lowering drug prices.”
