George Sivulka’s AI Startup Revolutionizes Business Efficiency

At just 27, George Sivulka has made quite a mark as the founder and CEO of Hebia, an AI platform designed to help organizations manage their overwhelming data.

Since launching in 2020, Hebia has attracted a range of high-profile clients, including BlackRock, KKR, the US Air Force, Centerview Partners, MetLife, and more.

Sivulka noted in a conversation with Nynext that leaders at these companies are increasingly aware that innovation can lead to significant change. “They realize they need to embrace transformation,” he mentioned.

Unlike typical AI tools like ChatGPT, which are transactional—users give prompts and get responses—Hebia’s models evolve through continuous interactions, offering tailor-made solutions that align with specific processes over time.

The platform features agents, or autonomous AI programs, that reflect a company’s operational style. These agents can manage customized workflows seamlessly, operating continuously and without downtime.

For instance, analysts in the private equity sector can direct these agents to review company filings, create comparable company analyses, build valuation models in Excel, and even draft initial investor notes.

Despite the impressive capabilities of these tools, Sivulka emphasizes that they do not replace analysts. Instead, they alleviate the burden of repetitive tasks, allowing professionals to focus on more engaging and investigative work—”It’s like having a very capable intern,” he said.

Interestingly, Sivulka originally aimed for an academic career. After spending nearly a decade at Stanford, where he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees, he started a doctoral program. However, he grew disillusioned as he observed peers transitioning into mundane corporate jobs, turning insightful expertise into routine tasks.

Sivulka reflected, “Some of the smartest individuals were stuck doing some of the least stimulating jobs.” This insight spurred him to drop out and pursue his vision for Hebia from a small space in East Palo Alto. He dedicated his days to coding and reaching out to potential clients.

This journey began before ChatGPT became widely known, during a time when AI was often misunderstood. Early on, funding was hard to secure, but eventually, investors like Peter Thiel and Mike Volpe from Index came on board.

To escape the conventional mindset prevalent in Silicon Valley, Sivulka established Hebia in NYC’s Soho area. “Here in New York, we really get to understand the users’ challenges,” he explained.

As he continues to build his team, Sivulka sees a future where AI and human collaboration redefine workplace dynamics. He envisions a world where hybrid teams of humans and AI agents work together, enhancing productivity and outcomes.

Reflecting on the broader implications of AI, he stated that in recent decades, productivity per employee has stagnated despite advancements in software and cloud services. He believes AI has the potential to change that dramatically.

“AI can save us significant hours,” Sivulka stated. “We can genuinely see tangible outcomes.”
