Hegseth Calls on Military Leaders to Assemble Quickly Next Week

Meeting of Military Leaders Scheduled by Defense Secretary

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called for hundreds of U.S. military leaders, including generals and admirals, to meet at the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Virginia next week. This gathering is expected to be quite significant.

The Washington Post reported that nearly all top military commanders worldwide would be involved. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that Hegseth will address senior military personnel early next week, though he refrained from sharing additional details. Notably, he also expressed that there should be no concern regarding the meeting.

Hegseth’s directives apply to around 800 generals and admirals stationed in the U.S. and in various other countries across different time zones. Individuals familiar with the matter noted that senior officers with the rank of brigadier or higher are expected to participate.

Some attendees will include commanders overseeing conflict zones and senior military leaders who are stationed in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific area, according to anonymous sources.

Concerns have been raised as some military officials mentioned they couldn’t recall seeing such an order before. “People are genuinely worried. They’re unsure about what this signifies,” remarked one source.

This directive comes amid significant changes in the U.S. military under the Trump administration. One notable change involves a recent executive order proposing to rename the Department of Defense to the War Bureau. This idea seems to stem from comments President Trump made in August regarding the potential name change. He mentioned that the U.S. initially referred to the Department of War before it became the Department of Defense in 1949.

“Everyone appreciated that we had a proud history of victory when it was the War Bureau,” Trump stated. “Then we switched to the Department of Defense.”

Hegseth echoed similar sentiments during an interview on Fox and Friends. He highlighted the historical victories, contending, “This was not the Department of Defense; it was the War Department.” Hegseth added, “We have rekindled a warrior spirit in our department. We need warriors who truly understand how to confront our enemies.”

He further elaborated, “We don’t want to be perpetually in a defensive posture. I think it’s crucial to pay attention to names and titles, so we’re collaborating closely with the White House and the president.”
