Hegseth: Changing the Department of Defense to 'Department of War' will bring back the 'Warrior spirit'

Trump to Rename Department of Defense

On Friday, President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order that will officially change the name of the Department of Defense (DOD) to the War Division (DOW), according to White House officials.

This move seems aimed at reviving the DOD’s original “warrior spirit,” which officials believe has diminished under the current “awakening” culture prevalent in the Pentagon.

With this new name, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses and others will be able to adopt titles like “Chief of War” and “Deputy Chief of War” for official communications and events.

“Everyone liked that there was an incredible history of victory when it was the War Bureau,” Trump remarked last week. “We then changed it to the Department of Defense.”

In a recent discussion, the former Secretary of Defense referred to the history of the old department, asserting, “We won World War I not with the Department of Defense, but with the War Division and the Department of War. As the President said, we are not just about defense; we’re focused on overcoming threats.” Hegses noted a desire to revive that “warrior spirit,” emphasizing the need for a military that knows how to confront its adversaries effectively.

“We don’t want endless contingencies; we’re just defending. I think names and titles really matter, and we’re collaborating with the White House on this,” he added.

The original Department of War was established back in 1789 but was reorganized in 1947 under President Truman’s National Security Act. This restructuring aimed to unify the various armed services into a streamlined command structure, ultimately leading to its rename as the Department of Defense in 1949.

“Breaking news: President Trump will sign an executive order tomorrow to restore the original name of the Department of War,” reported Benny Johnson on social media.

This executive order will also necessitate changes to public-facing Pentagon signs and websites, as noted by reports from Breitbart quoting White House sources.

There’s some uncertainty regarding whether Congress will need to approve this change, but Trump expressed confidence, stating, “I’m sure Congress will go along with us if we need it. I don’t think we need it.”
