Army Department Moves Against Sen. Mark Kelly Over Controversial Video
The Department of the Army is intensifying its actions against Democratic Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona, following his connection to a video deemed “inflammatory” by President Donald Trump and his administration.
Under the guidance of Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth, the department plans to reduce Kelly’s military retirement benefits. The decision stems from what it describes as a “pattern of reckless misconduct.” This involves a video where a Democratic congressman supposedly encouraged military personnel to disregard “unlawful orders” from the president. The DOW has also issued a letter of censure against Kelly, asserting that it has uncovered significant reckless and illegal behavior on his part.
“Being a senator doesn’t shield Mr. Kelly from accountability,” Hegseth remarked. He elaborated that six weeks ago, Kelly, along with five other congressional members, released a video that he views as undermining military discipline.
Hegseth, a retired Navy captain, reminded that Kelly is still bound by military justice due to his status as a retired officer receiving benefits. “The Army and the American public expect justice,” he emphasized.
Kelly retaliated against Hegseth’s accusations, questioning his qualifications and suggesting that the targets are primarily those who oppose the administration. “After 25 years in the Navy, including 39 combat missions and four space flights, I put my life on the line for this country and safeguarded our Constitution, including every American’s First Amendment rights,” he expressed. He did not anticipate facing attacks from Trump or Hegseth for standing up for these rights.
“Hegseth’s actions send a harmful message to veterans: if you express disagreement with the administration, there will be repercussions,” Kelly added, calling this behavior “outrageous and fundamentally un-American.”
