UPDATE: U.S. Service Members Killed in Jordan
2:40 PM – Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has issued a statement following the confirmation of two U.S. service members’ deaths in Jordan. This marks the first American fatalities in the ongoing conflict with Iran since March.
“Godspeed, heroes,” Hegseth expressed. “Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.”
As of now, President Donald Trump has yet to publicly address the loss of the service members. Their identities will remain confidential until their families have been informed. Reports from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) have not confirmed whether a third service member, who was reported missing, has been located.
Iran has escalated attacks against neighboring Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases, which followed a week of U.S. airstrikes aimed at Iran.
10:32 AM – CENTCOM disclosed that two U.S. service members were killed in action in Jordan, while one remains unaccounted for following renewed military confrontations between the U.S. and Iran.
“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” CENTCOM communicated via X on Saturday, adding that one service member is currently missing.
The command detailed that four other American service members were treated at hospitals in Jordan but have since been released, with some even returning to duty after being evaluated for minor wounds.
CENTCOM will provide further details about the deceased service members once their families have been notified.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
