Heidi Klum’s Bug Cleanse: A Mixed Review
Heidi Klum recently shared her uncertainty about the effectiveness of the controversial bug and parasite cleanse that she and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, undertook. “A lot of people asked me, ‘What happened?’ and honestly, I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what happened!'” she admitted in a recent interview.
Klum expressed that the experience felt good overall, though it left her wishing for some definitive results. “I hope whatever it was has left my body,” she added, noting the frequent discussions she hears about such cleanses.
In reflecting on the process, Klum, who is 52, appreciated having Kaulitz, 36, alongside her. “It’s definitely easier to do it with your partner in the morning. You don’t feel alone drinking this weird stuff,” she shared. The cleanse was herbal, but she described it as “unpleasant,” requiring a daily commitment to rid the body of any potential eggs.
Previously, she mentioned in an August interview that this was her first attempt at a cleanse, spurred by information she found on Instagram. “I’ve never done this before, even though I’ve heard it’s good to do once a year,” Klum said.
Reflecting on her initial experience, she noted, “I did two rounds, hoping to eliminate any eggs or things like that. But honestly, I felt great afterward.” However, she still held reservations: “We don’t really know what’s going to happen.” Klum was uncertain about whether she or Kaulitz had even had parasites in the first place.
Dr. David Purow, a gastroenterologist, cautioned against Klum’s comments, explaining that not everyone carries parasites as part of their normal microbiome. He emphasized that there is no proven benefit to such cleanses, and noted that high doses of herbs could potentially lead to liver damage.
