Helen Mirren criticizes wealthy actors for being negative

Helen Mirren Reflects on Co-Stars Pierce Brosnan and Harrison Ford

In a recent conversation, Helen Mirren expressed her admiration for her co-stars, Pierce Brosnan and Harrison Ford, while steering clear of any controversy about the “slutty” remarks associated with older actors.

The 79-year-old actress portrays Chara Dutton, the wife of Ford’s character, Jacob Dutton, in the series “1923.” In contrast, Brosnan plays the crime boss Conrad Harrigan, married to her character Maeve. Mirren shared her unexpected experiences working with the two iconic actors, aged 82 and 71 respectively.

“I think what strikes me is how they act on set,” Mirren noted, commenting on their demeanor and professionalism.

“Harrison has this way of connecting with the crew, sitting with everyone despite the uncomfortable cold,” she remarked, indicating his unpretentious nature. “He really values that camaraderie.” Mirren shared her perspective, suggesting that many older actors tend to grow bitter over the years, which she finds unnecessary.

The chemistry between the three, according to Mirren, arises naturally while filming. “You either have it, or you don’t. It’s not something you really can force,” she explained. The mutual respect among them contributes significantly to their working relationship, she added.

Reflecting on her earlier experiences, Mirren remembered working with Ford back in 1986 on “The Mosquito Coast.” “Our dynamics have changed so much since then. I was simply a theatre actress, and he was already a big star,” she reminisced. “Now, I feel like we’re on more equal footing, though of course, he’s still Harrison Ford.”

Interestingly, Mirren and Brosnan had previously crossed paths in the 1980 film “The Long Good Friday.” She recalled they didn’t actually meet during filming due to different scenes, which was ironic given their later collaborations.

Mirren also noted that Brosnan’s influence played a significant role in her decision to join the cast of “Mobland,” where both actors star alongside Tom Hardy. “We both communicated about the script and it just felt right to be involved,” she said, emphasizing their supportive friendship.

Mirren stated her excitement about portraying Maeve in “Mobland,” calling it a fun challenge. “I just love Maeve,” she laughed. “Playing her is an absolute blast.” The show, set against the backdrop of London’s criminal underbelly, highlights the fierce rivalry between crime families.

Episodes of “Mobland” are available for streaming on Paramount+, releasing weekly on Sundays.
