Helicopter Crash in Huntington Beach Sends Five to Hospital
Five individuals were hospitalized following a helicopter crash in Huntington Beach, California, on Saturday, as confirmed by local authorities.
Law enforcement responded to reports of the incident at a beach parking lot located between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard around 2 p.m. The helicopter was reportedly associated with the Cars and Copters on the Coast event set for Sunday.
A representative from the Huntington Beach Fire Department stated, “At this time, the two people on board the helicopter have been safely removed from the wreckage, and three individuals on the road suffered injuries.”
All five were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, as indicated by a spokesperson.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been informed about the incident, as noted in a press release from the City of Huntington Beach.
Tim Robinson, a local resident who witnessed the crash, recorded video footage showing the helicopter precariously positioned between a building and several palm trees. “At first, I thought I was watching a movie. It seemed like some crazy stunt. Then it spun around a few times and crashed. It was quite something,” Robinson shared. He commented that he often walks along that beach and observed parts of the helicopter detaching before the crash.
Robinson described hearing a pinging sound as the helicopter descended and saw pieces fly off. “I have no idea what it was. The parts came off just as it started to spin out of control,” he added.
As of now, the cause of the crash remains unclear, leaving the investigation ongoing in Huntington Beach.
