Henry Cavill hurt during training for 'Highlander' remake, according to reports

There’s just one injury reported.

Henry Cavill has apparently sustained an injury while training for his role in the upcoming “Highlander” remake, which could delay the film’s production until next year.

The “Man of Steel” actor, who is 42, suffered an unspecified injury during preparations for the highly anticipated reboot.

As a result, sources suggest that filming at Amazon MGM Studios may be pushed back to early 2026 instead of later this year.

Cavill’s representatives and Amazon MGM Studios have been contacted for comments.

The reboot features a notable cast including Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Jimon Whonu, and Max Chan, reviving a classic 40 years after the original debuted in 1986.

In the initial film, Christopher Lambert played Conor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordfighter battling the immortal Egyptian warrior Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez, portrayed by Sean Connery, over several centuries.

“Highlander” grew into a cult classic, spawning multiple sequels and a television series that ran for six seasons from 1992 to 1997.

The reboot was first announced in June 2021, although director Chad Stahelski had been discussing it as early as May 2019.

Stahelski expressed confidence in the project during a prior interview, noting that the studio is fully supportive. He mentioned that he envisions it as a franchise capable of expanding into television shows and more.

“Just throwing together what we think is an immortal movie where we’re sword fighting easily would be a mistake,” he said at the time, emphasizing his commitment to developing it creatively.

Cavill, who was revealed to star in the remake in May 2021, expressed his deep appreciation for the original film during a presentation at Cinemacon in 2024. Interestingly, he mentioned uncertainty about the direction they were taking with the script.

“If you think you’ve seen me doing sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he promised.

Meanwhile, the project’s direction shifted earlier this year when “Highlander” came under the banner of Lionsgate’s Amazon MGM Studios, which has been developing it since 2016. Despite this change, everything seemed to be on track until Cavill’s recent injury disrupted the timeline.
