The LPGA Tour marked the first major over the weekend at the Chevron Championship in the Woodlands, Texas, and finished with a pretty bang. I went to the playoffs two weeks ago, just like the Masters, where five players were competing for major titles, in contrast to the two. Five!
Japan’s Mao Zedong was able to last the fight against Hyo Ju Kim, Aliya Jutanugarn and Lindy Fang Kang as he won his first major championship and his first victory throughout the entire LPGA Tour. This is an incredible turnaround considering she missed the cut at last year’s event and was the 2023 T56.
Saigo has become the LPGA player to win her first major championship victory since Alisen Corpuz took place at Pebble Beach’s 2023 US Women’s Open. She is also the first Japanese player to win a major title since Ayaka Flew at the Amundi Evian Championship last season. In particular, Japanese players are currently winning every major on the tour.
The LPGA Tour continues this week with the Black Desert Championship presented by Greatersion. This is the year inaugurated for this event and should make it quite exciting.
