Early Saturday morning, a Hezbollah drone that evaded Israeli air defenses struck Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu near or at his residence, but the prime minister was not physically present and there were no reports of injuries.
Axios reported Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's private residence in the coastal town of Cesaria was reportedly attacked. The Times of Israel reported that the home had been “targeted,” but did not confirm whether the home was actually affected by the drone attack.
The Prime Minister's Office said only that the drone was “launched towards the Prime Minister's Office” and that Netanyahu and his wife were not at the scene at the time.
An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) statement at 8:17 a.m. said:
3 UAVs in the last hour [unmanned aerial vehicles] A person has been confirmed to have entered Israeli territory from Lebanon.
Two of the UAVs were intercepted.
Another UAV crashed into a structure in the Caesarea area. No injuries were reported.
Sirens were activated at the Grillot military base during the incident.
The possibility of further hostile aircraft in the area has been ruled out.
This case is under review.
If successful, the drone attack would have had a significant impact on the war. Israel is also expected to respond, but not necessarily Lebanon. The apparent attempt on Prime Minister Netanyahu's life could mean that Iranian leaders are being fair in their response.
