Hezbollah Starts Carrying Out Daily Drone Attacks on Israeli Forces

Hezbollah’s Evolving Tactics in Southern Lebanon

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed group known for its tactics of concealing rocket launchers within civilian areas and targeting Israeli civilians with missile strikes, is reportedly becoming more adept at using drones. These unmanned aerial vehicles are now being used for precise strikes against Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon.

Retired Lebanese Army General Mounir Shehadeh stated that while drones aren’t a new addition to Hezbollah’s arsenal, their use has become more frequent, almost daily. He explained that the group is transitioning from general bombardments to more precise drone strikes aimed at inflicting continuous damage on Israeli forces.

Moreover, Shehadeh pointed out that the drones being utilized are mass-produced and relatively inexpensive compared to missiles. This makes them more accessible for Hezbollah, particularly as difficulties arise in sourcing missiles from Iran. While the group’s missiles are often inaccurate, drones can provide the precision needed for military targets.

Interestingly, Hezbollah seems to prefer drones for harassment tactics. These drones, equipped with cameras, not only allow for strategic strikes but also enable the organization to share footage of attacks, demonstrating their effectiveness against Israeli forces.

According to a Hezbollah official, the tactic is designed to instill fear and create significant losses among Israeli troops, who might overestimate their protection due to heavy artillery and advanced military equipment.

In light of these developments, President Donald Trump has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to adopt a more careful approach against Hezbollah. He emphasized the importance of precision—avoidance of unnecessary destruction that could tarnish Israel’s image.

Trump expressed his concern over Hezbollah and Iran’s detrimental effect on Lebanon, suggesting that eliminating Hezbollah could lead to Lebanon’s recovery. He claimed that removing Iran would effectively eliminate Hezbollah as well.

The administration appears to be favoring the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to take the lead in countering Hezbollah. The plan seems to involve establishing a long-term military presence in parts of southern Lebanon to create a “buffer zone” against the group.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, asserting the need for a capable Lebanese army to effectively dismantle Hezbollah. He emphasized that America’s support aims to empower vetted LAF forces to track and disarm Hezbollah elements, allowing Israel to focus on its own security without being bogged down by the issues within Lebanon.

Rubio noted that Israel’s conflict is with Hezbollah, not Lebanon as a whole. He expressed a hope that different sects within Lebanon could unite against Hezbollah, highlighting the importance of a single government and army in the country under Lebanese authority.
