Hideki Matsuyama’s comeback at Genesis wins golf bettor $103,000

Hideki Matsuyama came from behind to win the Genesis Invitational, but one bettor must have read Michael Levov’s post-action betting article about the tournament.

They bet 75-1 on Matsuyama to win before the game at Riviera Country Club, paying out $102,600 on a $1,350 bet for the upset win.

Matsuyama had a perfect record of 200/1 going into Sunday’s final round, but on Sunday he posted an incredible 9-under 62 to take the championship.

Post-action Levov predicted victory before the tournament, saying he was playing “a course that clearly suits my game.”

A ferocious charge on the back nine fueled his stunning victory as he finished the afternoon show with a 9 under and no bogeys.

Matsuyama entered Sunday with a six-stroke lead and finished the tournament at -17, well ahead of second place Will Zalatoris (-14).

Meanwhile, Canada’s Adam Hadwin would have been the topic of discussion on Sunday if Matsuyama hadn’t had such a spectacular performance.

He finished at -6, his second-best round of the day, and was just one stroke behind second place.

Matsuyama’s victory continues a series of wild long shots, and the momentum will continue on the PGA Tour in 2024.

LIV Golf has taken some of the world’s best golfers and pushed mid-level golfers into a place where they can win any weekend.

Before this weekend, there had been five consecutive winners with pre-tournament odds of at least 100/1, so the long shot is in the news.

Matsuyama currently leads FanDuel with maximum odds of 80-1 to win (compared to 75-1 at DraftKings).
