Las Vegas Tourism Faces Price Concerns
Las Vegas – Tourism in Las Vegas is showing signs of decline, with many travelers voicing concerns over the rising costs in the city.
Visitors to Vegas recently expressed their feelings about the “crazy” prices they encountered during their stay, sharing experiences that highlighted the issue. Daisy and Ben, a couple from the UK, mentioned they had traveled across the US and were surprised by the expenses they faced in Vegas.
“It felt like everything was just a bit pricier than what we saw in other parts of America,” Ben remarked, adding, “We ended up spending $20 on two coffees this morning, which seemed like a lot to us.”
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority released visitor statistics for July, revealing a 12% decrease compared to last year. They reported around 3.5 million visitors in the same month last year, with a notable drop to 86.5% in 2024.
Katherine, who was in town to celebrate her daughter’s 16th birthday, shared her surprise at the menu prices. “Drinking coffee that costs $14 was quite a shock,” she recalled. Her daughter, Cammy, added that her lemonade was $12 and noticed that water bottles seemed overpriced too.
Another couple, Janis and Faith, mentioned being in town for a meeting with their husbands. Janice recounted her disbelief when her breakfast at Starbucks totaled $18, while Faith highlighted that one cocktail at Hell’s Kitchen cost her $30. “But hey, we’re having a good time,” she said, acknowledging that vacation spending can add up.
One traveler from Ireland, Oren, noted a contrast in pricing between different areas. “Some spots are reasonably priced, while others, especially on the Strip, can be quite expensive,” he observed.
Lisa and Linda, visiting from Lake Stevens, Washington, noted high costs as well. Linda commented on the $50 fee for early hotel check-in, while Lisa remarked on $30 drinks. A father celebrating his son’s 21st birthday mentioned spending $25 on a gin and tonic at the pool and $13 for coffee.
Additionally, a young man spoke of a $95 ATM withdrawal fee he heard about. “I didn’t see it myself, but someone mentioned that was the fee for cash,” he said, underscoring the high costs associated with visiting the city.
