High schoolers band together to make sports accessible for people with disabilities

Long Island high school students are raising money to support inclusive initiatives and supporting sports activities for athletes with disabilities.

Lacrosse My Heart, a nonprofit led by six student lacrosse players from New York’s Roslyn High School, recently raised enough money to support the Long Island Hammerheads wheelchair lacrosse team.

“My friends, co-founders and I have been playing together since we were 5 years old, and lacrosse has given us so much, so through organizations like the Hammerheads and others who aren’t, “We wanted to connect and give back to our community. The nonprofit organization supports athletes like Joe Slaninka, a member of the Hammerheads team, and said community support makes all the difference.
