The protest reportedly sparked a counter-protest consisting of both adults and students in support of students using opposite-sex restrooms.

Wappingers Central School District Superintendent Dwight Bonk said a petition had been circulated to the campus community alleging incidents involving transgender students in school bathrooms, but has now been removed. did.
Bonk added that he was not aware of any such alleged incident.
“We will continue to provide a safe environment for all of our students. And by all, we mean all of each,” the superintendent added.
John Jay High School reportedly has separate male and female restrooms that all students can use, in addition to boys and girls’ restrooms.
The law reportedly states that school districts must provide transgender students with access to the restroom of the opposite sex if they wish to do so.
“We want to support all of their rights, but we also want to follow the appropriate protocols that we are responsible for following,” Bonk said.
