Hiker endures five days in Washington forest following unsuccessful shortcut

Hiker Lost in Washington Woods Rescued After Nearly a Week

A hiker in Washington went missing after trying to take a “shortcut” and ended up lost in the woods for almost a week. The incident occurred after he fell from a tree. Reports indicate that authorities received a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, mentioning faint cries for help in the Scumish Woods, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

When the sheriff’s aide arrived on the scene, he reported hearing “faint, miserable voices” coming from the forest, indicating that the hiker had fallen.

The Disappearance at Camping Site

This man, whose identity has not been disclosed, vanished from the “Earth of the World” campsite while hiking with his father. KCSO has not provided immediate comments on the situation.

Rescue efforts involved first responders from multiple teams, including KCSO, Washington Explorer Search and Rescue, and Olympic Mountain Rescue, alongside local Tribal Police.

Discovery and Rescue

After approximately six hours of searching, the hiker was located and carried out of the forest on a stretcher. He explained to the first responders that he had originally set off with a clear aim but lost his way after plunging into the woods.

Interestingly, the hiker mentioned that he might have lost track of time for four or five days after taking that ill-fated shortcut.

Ultimately, he was transported to a local medical center for evaluation and treatment. As of now, there haven’t been any updates on his condition following the rescue.

This remarkable story sheds light on the potential dangers of hiking, particularly when it comes to unexpected detours and lack of preparation. A reminder to always have a plan, right?
