“Anytime you find humor in a difficult situation, it’s a victory.”
If this saying is true, Dave Landau scored a major victory last night with his commentary on Biden’s State of the Union address.
To say the president’s speech was “difficult” is an understatement; a cataclysmic nightmare might be a better description. All the more credit to Dave.
Somehow, his comedy managed to shine a light on Biden’s drone monologues about increasing funding to Ukraine, the fetish of abortion, the dangers of Trumpers, among other things.
Before the speech begins, Dave cuts to Sleepy Joe, first pointing out that the President is late.
“Do you think they’re pulling over at a gas station and putting it on a koala table and changing it?” he asked, adding that Biden’s doctor likely told Biden he was on morphine “except it had to be a stimulant.” He added that he was probably preparing for his speech by administering an intravenous drip.
Speaking about the audience, Dave said: [Biden’s] It is done with diversity. For example, if you look at this room now, it looks like a fitting room at Joseph A. Bank in Salt Lake City. ”
“When you have this many well-dressed 80-year-olds in a room, someone is usually going to be embalmed,” he added.
The Biden Cabinet wasn’t immune to Dave’s dry humor either.
“His cabinet? What’s Imodium and Tylenol?”
As the president made his way to the podium, the audience erupted in applause. Dave asked, “What are you clapping for?” Does that mean he hasn’t fallen? ”
“The only way he’s going to look more is…’so’ Mitch McConnell opens up for him and closes on the stroke.”
And that was right before the speech started.
